Deacon Pete My call to become a deacon was more of an evolution than a specific incident. God speaks to us in varied ways and he reached me through another person simply asking, "Have you ever thought of being a Deacon?"
In 2010 my wife Kathy and I began this journey together. I started attending Sacred Heart Major Seminary (SHMS) in Detroit and it was through much prayer along with the advice of my Spiritual Director, Father John Martin Shimkus, that got me through. He would remind me, "God gives you the strength to take the next step." So, I took the next step, and the next step, until finally, by God's grace, I was ordained to the permanent diaconate in the Archdiocese of Detroit in October, 2017. By God’s divine providence I was assigned to serve the people of God at SS Peter and Paul in North Branch along with the cluster parishes of St. Mary's in Burnside, St. Patrick's in Clifford and Sacred Heart in Brown City. It has been a tremendous gift to Kathy and I to serve in this cluster and become part of the family of the cluster of Northern Lapeer County. Kathy and I have been married since October 1979 and were blessed with two children, Maureen and Matthew. They're both married to wonderful people, Eric and Rebecca respectively. In God’s abundant grace we have two grandchildren, Jude and Gemma. Like David’s words in the 17th Psalm, they are the apple(s) of our eye(s).
Kathy and I feel that the faith we were both born into, the Church founded by Christ, is incredibly rich, deep and exciting. It is something that we grow in every day. It has led us to placing Christ as the center of our lives. It is only through our relationship with Jesus that we have humbly submitted to the will of the Father and continue our journey to serve Christ and His Church here in Northern Lapeer County.
